What is a barefoot shoe?
We asked resident expert and Rambert dancer Angélique Blasco to explain.
Three core features define true barefoot shoes:
1. WIDE TOEBOX
Allows the toes to splay naturally, improving stability, balance, and comfort while reducing pressure and deformation caused by narrow footwear.
2. ZERO-DROP
The heel and forefoot sit at the same height, promoting a more natural posture and gait by keeping the body aligned as it would be when barefoot.
3. THIN AND FLEXIBLE SOLE
Maximises ground feel and sensory feedback while allowing the foot to move and bend naturally, supporting intrinsic foot strength and mobility.
